sharepoint error.png

If students are trying to access a SharePoint link sent by their instructor, they may sometimes get the error message you see in the screenshot above:

That didn't work

We're sorry but name1234@student.gwinnetttech.edu can't be found in the gwinnetttech0.sharepoint.com directory.

.

SharePoint error

This SharePoint error is related to OKTA authentication. It can happen when students click on a SharePoint link in Outlook webmail from their instructor without being logged in to the OKTA dashboard single sign on.

Students must first log in to dashboard, then log in to blackboard, then click the documents link.

The documents will then open without an error.

.

Sign in to the OKTA dashboard first

This SharePoint document error is related to OKTA authentication. This happens if a student tries to click on the link without being signed in to the single sign on through the OKTA dashboard page. This is why you may see a message at the top of the screen Sign in not complete as is visible at the top of the screenshot below. Always sign in to the single sign on first. Because the student account is not signed in, it can't find it in the directory to authenticate, it won't open the document.

Signing in to the OKTA dashboard first is required for the SharePoint link to open properly without this error. You may experience other errors if you try to access Outlook or Blackboard outside the single sign on.

.

  1. Students must first log in to dashboard,
Go to https://gwinnetttech.edu/dashboard/and click on the log in button.
  2. Then click the Blackboard icon on the dashboard page, you cannot log in to blackboard separately outside of the dashboard or you will get this error.
  3. Then click the Outlook webmail link from the dashboard page.
You can then click the documents link in Outlook webmail.

.

Use a supported browser

Always be sure to use one of our supported browsers, Google Chrome or Firefox. Blackboard is not compatible with Microsoft Edge or Safari, this will also cause unexpected errors such as pages not displaying correctly or links not opening.

Which browsers are supported at Gwinnett Tech?
