OKTA has discontinued MFA verification using text messages. Gwinnett Tech will implementing this change June 9th, 2 weeks into the Summer 2025 semester, in favor of the OKTA verify app. The app is faster and more secure.

Gwinnett Technical College has implemented additional security on all student email accounts. This is called Multifactor Authentication.
Gwinnett Tech uses the OKTA Verify app for multifactor authentication (MFA)
OKTA has let us know that MFA verification using text messages will be going away soon in favor of the OKTA verify app. We recommend everyone switch to OKTA verify as their MFA method now.
OKTA Verify is available on iOS or Android devices including a phone, tablet, or iPad. OKTA Verify will work on devices with or without phone service, you only need Wi-Fi. The app can be setup on more than one device.

OKTA Verify is available on iOS or Android devices including a phone, tablet, or iPad. The app can be setup on more than one device.
To add the OKTA verify app as an additional verification factor follow the instructions below.

Download the OKTA Verify app on your Android or iPhone mobile device before you begin.

Step 1. Log in to the student dashboard page https://gwinnetttech.edu/dashboard/ on a laptop or desktop computer.
Step 2. Click on your name on the upper right-hand side of the page, then click Settings.
Step 3. Scroll down to "Security Methods" and click on the "Set up" box next to the additional verification for OKTA verify.
You may be prompted to enter your password
and provide your current method of MFA verification.
*** If you don't have access to your current method of MFA, contact Student Tech Support for a Multi-Factor Authentication reset ***
Step 4. A QR code specific to your student account will be displayed on the laptop or desktop screen.
***Be sure to download the Okta Verify app to your mobile device before the next step.***
The QR code will time out and you will have to log in to the security methods setup screen again.

Step 5. Open the Okta Verify app on your mobile device, and select "Add an account"
Then choose Organization
Step 7. On the Add account from other device? screen, click Skip
Step 8. When you see Do you have your QR code? on your phone screen, scan the QR code displayed on your laptop or desktop screen.
If prompted, allow push notifications on your device so that you can approve future sign-in notifications without opening the Okta Verify app.
You may also be given the option to enable face ID, touch ID, or biometrics.
Your Okta Verify account is now setup
Please Note
If this is your first time using the settings menu, and the Security Methods section is blank, with no options to make changes, you will need to sign out and sign back in again. The security methods section should then be accessible as described above.
